Danny Sura

Hello, ladies and ledas! I know what y’all are thinking: just why does Danny Sura take SO long to update us on his B-Town adventures? Where has he been for all this time? Did he go back to the UK? Did the competition get too much for him? Was he kicked out of that big banner film that he supposedly signed???

Fear not, you wonderful people. I’ve been right here in the motherland, making significant strides in my Bollywood career. In all honesty, so much has happened that I’ve no idea where to begin. Well, you must’ve figured out by now that the big banner film I signed is Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3. It released last Friday, so PLEASE show your support and watch it at a theatre near you. And oh, don’t bring your folks with you — it’s NOT a family film, and there’s a strong possibility that they’ll be scandalised! I’ve a lot of behind-the-scenes videos and pics from the shoot that I promise to share with you in my next blog post — I don’t want to get sued by Balaji Motion Pictures for breach of contract now, do I? But to satiate your appetite, I’ve put up a couple of pics :-)

Right, moving on… Has anyone noticed that there’s a lot of web-based content coming out of nowhere? Well, I’m happy to announce that I’ve recently finished a stint on a new show that’ll be populating the webosphere. The working title of the show is Main NRI Banana Chahti Hoon, and it’s about a geezer who comes back to India to find his perfect wife. I had such a great time filming this! The actresses who starred opposite me were fantastic, and I’m not afraid to admit this, but a couple of them really stole the show! Its great to be inspired (and not jealous) by working with good talent who teach you a thing or two about the craft of acting.

Do you guys remember that I toured with Lillette Dubey and her PrimeTime Theatre Company a few years back for the play August: Osage County? Well, this month, she’s celebrating the 25th anniversary of her theatre company and as part of the celebrations, Madamme Dubey has put on a grand theatre festival — and I’m part of it! She has directed two new plays for it that I’m acting in. The first play is Gauhar and the second is The Dancing Donkey. Gauhar has been getting a lot of press coverage and there was even a news article printed about it a couple of weeks ago :-D

I don’t want to give the story away but the play is about India’s first singer, Gauhar Jaan, to record her voice on the gramophone back in the early 19th century. Yep, Gauhar was India’s first rock star, basically!

The Dancing Donkey, on the other hand, is a one act play about two rascals who steal a donkey from a priest and then try to sell it back to him again. It’s a great show that young people will enjoy. We are performing it this on Saturday the 23rd January at 11am and 7.30pm and on Sunday the 24th January at 11am. The venue’s the same for both days: the NCPA Experimental Theatre. You can book tickets here :-)

The next show of Gauhar is on 31st January at Prithvi Theatre. The tickets aren’t available yet but keep your eyes peeled here. As part of the festival, me and my fellow cast member went to meet the great Hrishi K who interviewed us on 94.3 Radio One! You can watch the video of that and Iisten to the actual interview:

While at it, also check out this video diary of when we went to Lucknow to perform Gauhar as part of the famous and popular ‘Repertwahr Festival’.

Remember that show I was hosting, Spirit of India: The Festivals?’ Well, the show has NOW been bought by The Discovery Channel India. Just recently they aired the ‘Makar Sankrati’ episode — I’ll keep you posted when the next episode is coming on :-)

Well, that’s it today — I’ll be back soon, promise. Until then, take care and watch… KYAA KOOL HAIN HUM 3 :-p

Danny Sura

Ladies and gents! How are you doing? For those of you who are back to read my blog, thank you very much! And for those of you who are here for the first time, aapka hardhik swaagat hai :-)

Danny Sura

SO, who watched Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3? ? Right, judging by the box office results upon its release, I’m guessing not many! But I’ll be honest, I expected the film to do a whole lot better. And I am NOT making any excuses, but I do believe that the censor board really stuffed up our film. If I could only share the original script and the original footage of what was shot… it was very, very funny. But alas, if only the industrywallahs made a big hoohah about the cuts ordered by the almighty censor board and their band of intelligent people like they did *cough* for a certain film on the drugs problem in Punjab, then maybe the fate of the film would have been different.

What about the people who HAVE seen it then? Well, when I spoke to friends and friends of my friends, it was hilarious. One fellow said to me: “You were committed to the role. So that was good.” Another person placed his hand on my shoulder, gave me that look you give to people at a funeral and said with a sombre tone, “It’s OK.” Another person who I wanted to uppercut asked me, “Why did you do such a film?” All I could do then was laugh.

I will be honest though: I am still human, so I did feel a bit upset at what was said to me. BUT, then the bigger picture came into my mind. I am a bloke from the UK who got to be a part of a big banner film without having any filmy connections, without having a godfather from the industry, without doing any favours (sexual or otherwise). All I did was work hard and not give up. So I feel very blessed to have had this experience of working with a group of fabulous actors and I am proud to have my name attached to this film.

Danny Sura in ‘Girl In The City'

Remember in my last blog entry I spoke about that new web series that I was filming for? Well that was delayed but just last week I was informed that the series will be releasing this month. So stay tuned for more updates from me. Its going to be a cracker (hopefully).

In terms of my new work, if you have been watching the Bindass channel you may have seen me in a new show called Girl In The City. It’s a great series that is airing both on the TV and the internet. Online, the show has gotten over 25 millions views so far! You can watch the show here, so please do have a watch and leave any comments. It’s got a great cast including the talented Mithila Palkar (who plays Imran Khan’s sister in Katti Batti) and Rajat Barmecha (from Udaan).

Also, the play that I am touring with Lillette Dubey, Gauhar, is going from strength to strength. We are taking it to the UK in October, then most likely to Pakistan and onwards to the US next year! We went on tour with it recently and I made a couple of vlogs to share with you all.

Check them out here:
